life is what happens when you are busy making other plans

So, here I am, neglecting this blog again. The past few months have just been absolutely ridiculous and so many new and different (good and bad) things have been happening in my life. Stay tuned, I hope to return soon.

Plain and Simple

Sometimes I need to dress like a grown-up. I do wish that I could parade around in tulle skirts and bows all the time, but the reality is that I would probably look rather silly. I had a meeting with the professor I will be assisting this coming semester so my goal was to look respectable. Yet, despite my love for cardigans and elbow patches, I promise to never turn into a frumpy academic. Speaking of academics - my bag, which my boyfriend picked out on his own to give me for Christmas from fredflare.com, is actually called the "nutmeg academy bag". It doesn't get more appropriate than that. Plus the brand is called "let them eat cake" which is totally adorable.

OMG SHOES

I've been very bad lately. Despite the fact that my closet is practically spitting out shoes every time I open it, I did a little bit of shoe splurging. I've had my eye on both of the black pairs here for quite a bit of time, so at least I know I REALLLLLLLY wanted them.

First up are the adorable Mix No. 6's with a bow that is both cute and sexy. I tried them on at DSW nearly 2 months ago, then I almost fainted while I was at the store (long story) and I wasn't able to get them. I've been watching them online, but still never made the plunge. Last week I went with my sister so she could get some new years eve shoes and I saw them again - except they no longer had a 6.5, 7, or 7.5. 7.5 is really pushing it, so I would be drowning in an 8, so I decided to see if the 6's fit, because sometimes they do - and what do you know, they did fit! And they were more comfortable than when I tried on the 7's. With one pair left and online sold out, it was now or never for these babies.

Next are these Gomax brown georgia's from lulus.com. I bought a new "leather" (aka vegan leather) jacket and I wanted to up it so I qualified for free shipping. These were cute, very "me" and I'm glad I added them to my order, I feel like they will go with a lot.

Now, while the first 2 pairs are definitely things that scream my name, this last Chinese Laundry pair is not a typical "me" shoe. The main reason being its platform + height. It's actually something more up my younger sister's alley (she's more clubby while I'm more cafe). I have been seriously lusting after them in blush with the ruffle down the middle but I saw these at TJ Maxx for a much lower price, but only in size 6. I rationalized that if the 6 fit, I would get them - again it did. I have more black shoes than I care to admit, but these will stand out as a go to "going out" shoe, I just love the mesh.

I have one more pair on it's way to me. It's another pair I've been eyeing for months and months and months and they finally got so cheap I "had" to buy them. My blog doesn't have the word "shoe" in it for no reason...

Neapolitan Pizza and Nutella Brownies

While watching Eat, Pray, Love the other day, I was inspired to try to make a pizza like the one she eats in Naples. I looked up some recipes and decided to go with one which told me how to make one that is close to authentic using the broiler and a cast iron skillet. Sadly, I accidentally forgot to throw down something on the bottom on the skillet before I laid on the dough so the whole bottom ended up burning. We even had to bring the pizza outside so we didn't set off the fire alarm. Sigh. Without the burns it would have been good, but I guess lesson learned. At least the brownies came out good..

Warm Day

Although some people may think that Miami has beautiful, warm sunny days all year round, they are wrong. Last winter we had sightings of snow and my boots got more wear than ever before. This winter has been similar, except it started getting colder earlier than usual. So a beautiful sunny day like today in the high 70s is quite rare as of late.

So this is the new year

Wooooooo, the latter part of 2010 was absolutely crazy and exhausting. I'm hoping that now that I no longer have a time consuming TA job (although I have yet to find out all the details of my new one...) I will be able to start blogging again! I am excited to see what all other bloggers are wearing and find out what everyone is up to. So enough blabbing - on to outfit photos!

Epcot Food and Wine Festival

2 weeks ago I made my annual trip to the Epcot Food and Wine Festival. Although this year was not as good as the past few years, it's always a great time. On Friday night we went to Winter Park and ate at Luma and then grabbed some wine at The Wine Room. It's this really awesome place where you buy a preloaded card and then you get a glass and you can go around and get a pours of wine from machines. Anyways, several months ago when I was in Atlanta one of the places we ate at (Two Urban Licks) had "Angela" Pinot Noir, I couldn't afford the whole bottle (it's retails at over $40, so imagine the mark up...) and I've been dying to try it since then. Well I actually got to try it at The Wine Room! The reason why I've been dying to try it is because, well, Angela is my name! The next day we went to Epcot and then to the Party for the Senses at night. Here are photos of some of the lovely food we had...

The Fall

We had a little cold snap come through today which should last through the weekend. I plan to get as much wear out of my boots collection as possible. Back in May my aunt gave my 4 pairs of beautiful DKNY books and I've been dying to wear them. I finally pulled out a pair today, but I'm still waiting to wear my favorites. Perhaps later tonight or tomorrow. Time off is so hard to come by these days, so thus far, I've had quite a wonderful morning and afternoon. Coffee and bagels for breakfast and then it was off to hair salon where my stylist had an empty slot after me so I got extra long hair attention. My hair needed it! My hair was so overgrown it was a mess. I figured I should probably cut it so I don't ruin Yessy's wedding photos next weekend! Afterward I grabbed some of my favorite soup (creamy tomato!) at Panera with my mother. I'm now in the mood for a really great movie, I'm planning on moving to the couch to see what's on after this.
